Glimpses of English is an innovative series designed for learners studying English from Class 1 to 8. It is based on the understanding that learning can be optimized and made an enjoyable experience when learners find themselves in anxiety–free situations and get ample opportunity to share their rich resources, including their own experiences, with peers and teachers without any inhibition or fear. The course empowers learners by freeing them from the rigid classroom situation through Circle Time discussion, group work, pair work and self–learning. It is also based on the belief that learners can acquire confidence, fluency and correctness in the target language when they learn it in real-life contexts.

Salient  features  of  the  series  are:

  • Draw on a variety of materials relating to everyday life and environment.

  • Follow integrated approach to curriculum and learning for all round personality development.

  • Include pre-reading activities for generating spontaneous interaction and discourses in the target language and preparing learners for the texts that follow.

  • Develop vocabulary and self expression through a variety of exercises such as puzzles, creative drama, role play, art and craft work etc.

  • Introduce grammatical concepts through real life contexts and reinforce them through recycling.

  • Develop writing abilities across the school curriculum and relate them to day-to-day life.

  • View writing as a process and collaborative activity

  • Attempt to develop all the language skills step by step.

  • Develop dictionary skills through a variety of interesting and cognitively challenging activities.

  • Include an illustrated Mini Reference Grammar and a list of irregular verbs in workbooks .

  • Provide Sample Test Papers in the Teacher’s Books.

About the Author

T. C. Ghai retired as Associate Professor of English from Deshbandhu (Evening) College,University of Delhi. He has extensive experience in teaching English and designing materials and syllabus for schools and colleges. He is a creative writer and a translator.

About the Consultant

A. L. Khanna retired as Associate Professor of English from Rajdhani College, University of Delhi and is currently engaged in a large number of English Language Teaching (ELT)  materials production projects. He has co-authored and co-edited several English textbooks for young learners. He has been associated with NCERT and several SCERTs across the country for textbooks production.
